Introducing E-Verify NextGen: A Modernized Approach to Employment Verification

Written by Cast&Crew | Sep 18, 2023 6:06:10 PM

Technology is constantly evolving, and it stands to reason that our employment verification processes should too. That’s where E-Verify NextGen comes in, bringing with it the means to increase efficiency, enhance security, and provide seamless integration.

What is E-Verify NextGen?

E-Verify NextGen is an internet-based service that will seamlessly merge the verification processes for Form I-9 and employment eligibility. This service is expected to roll out throughout 2024, so while the summary in this post is based on public information, it is subject to change.

What will the next generation of employment verification look like for employers?

It’s not just employees who will benefit from E-Verify NextGen; employers will too. Employers will still be required to review Form I-9s and supporting documents. But the new service will help save time and facilitate accurate record-keeping. Here's how:

  • Streamlined Communication: In many cases, NextGen reduces the administrative burden by providing direct notification to employees regarding their employment status, allowing employers to forego the process of delivering Further Action Notices to employees and simplifying communications
  • Seamless Integration: E-Verify NextGen seamlessly integrates with the existing E-Verify system, letting employers manage all verification cases in one central location, enhancing overall efficiency and compliance
  • Efficiency Improvement: Eliminates the need for employers to manually input employee information, saving time and reducing the risk of data entry errors
  • Flexibility: The service will be optional, not mandatory, allowing employers to choose whether to use NextGen

Also, there are many combined benefits that improve processes for both employees and employers. For example, E-Verify NextGen gives employees the ability to carry verification status over to new employment opportunities, meaning that employers can receive a new employee's employment eligibility status for a smooth and efficient transition.
