On the Governor’s Desk: SAG-AFTRA Bill for AI Protections 
The California Senate passed a bill requiring explicit consent for AI-generated replicas of performers, protecting their voice and likeness rights. Backed by SAG-AFTRA, the bill covers all media, including nonunion work, and addresses concerns about AI misuse in performance contracts.

Broadcasting the US Open: ESPN Continues Partnership for 12 More Years 
ESPN has extended its US Open broadcast rights through 2037, adding 12 years to its partnership with the US Tennis Association. Starting in 2026, the deal includes expanded streaming coverage and continues to cover Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada.

The 81st Venice Film Festival has kicked off, featuring a star-studded lineup with awards season hopefuls. Highlights include Brady Corbet's The Brutalist, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cloud, and Pedro Almodóvar's English-language debut, The Room Next Door.

No More Green Envelopes: Writers To Receive Direct Deposits for Residuals 
The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) is rolling out direct deposits for its members, phasing in the new system to replace traditional green envelopes. Despite a decline in employment and earnings, WGAW's recent financial report shows higher residual collections, thanks in part to gains from last year’s strike.

Breaking Into Blockchain: Sony To Launch New Web3 Incubator 
Sony Group is expanding into blockchain and Web3 through its Sony Pictures and Sony Music units, along with a new global incubator. Their venture, Sony Block Solutions Labs, developed the Soneium blockchain and launched the "Soneium Minato" public testnet and "Soneium Spark" developer incubation program to fuel Web3 innovation.
