New Zealand: Rebate Review Benefits International Production
Following a thorough review of their production rebate program, New Zealand is advancing with streamlined applications, retaining the 20% rebate, introducing fresh sustainability criteria to curb carbon emissions, and implementing a 5% uplift to foster local labor and repeat business. Although the minimum qualifying production spend stays at $18.5M, the post-production minimum qualifying spend has been reduced from $308K to $154K.

Lollapalooza: Artists and Fans Descend on Chicago
It’s time for another Lollapalooza! Anticipated to draw thousands of fans and renowned music icons like Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more, the four-day music festival at Grant Park in Chicago competes head-to-head with Coachella's turnout. For those unable to attend in person this year, streaming options will be available to enjoy the events from the comfort of their homes.

Second Best Ever: July’s $1.37B Domestic Box Office
Big numbers make for a big box office. While the number one spot on record is still be held by July 2011 (with $1.39B), last month’s haul isn’t far off. These latest numbers were driven by the outsized performance and cultural phenomenon known as the “Barbenheimer” double bill, plus a surprise hit in Angel Studios’ faith-based Sound of Freedom, which garnered $151.3M last month.

Sports

Slimed: NFL Alternate Broadcasts Head to Nickelodeon
The NFL is fully embracing green goop, a famous signature of Nickelodeon television, as they bring this year's championship game, slated for February 11 in Las Vegas, to the channel. The intent is to bring the same "slime-and-graphics-filled treatment for kids audiences." This partnership will extend through the leadup to Super Bowl LVIII, aiming to captivate younger audiences.

International

China: Local Films Bolster $4.9B Gross
Mainland Chinese blockbusters are fueling a surge at the Chinese box office, with titles like Lost in the Stars, Never Say Never, Chang An, and others contributing to the multi-billion-dollar haul. This impressive success has been further boosted by the involvement of "giant screen specialist" IMAX.
