**Gender Parity: Equal Number of Female and Male Protagonists in Film**   
In 2024, for the first time in recent history, the percentage of top-grossing films featuring female protagonists matched those with male protagonists at 42%. Despite this milestone, gender representation in film still faces challenges, with limited progress in certain roles.

**Film and AI: How the International Industry Embraces the Technology**   
Hollywood's fear of AI's impact on jobs and artistic integrity has sparked backlash over its use. However, AI is being embraced by filmmakers and indie producers as a tool to expand international reach and enhance creativity, with a growing push for responsible, transparent AI implementation. 

 

Movie Theaters

**Expanding the Theatrical Window: Filmmakers Call for Longer Exclusive Runs**   
Oscar nominated director Sean Baker called for a 90-day theatrical window for films, but data shows that in 2024, the average window for wide-release films has dropped to just 32 days. Even so, major hit films enjoy longer exclusive runs, and shorter windows appear to be financially successful for VOD revenue. 

 

**Sports**

**Super Bowl Sales: Over $800 Million in Ads**   
This year, Fox and Tubi generated over $800 million in advertising sales during Super Bowl LIX, which became the most-watched Super Bowl in history, attracting 127.7 million viewers. Tubi set a new streaming record with 15.5 million viewers and Kendrick Lamar's halftime show became the most watched in history. 

 

**International**

**Indonesian Film Growth: Discussions at the Internatioanl Film Festival Rotterdam**   
The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) showcased Indonesian cinema, highlighting the country's growing influence and the importance of addressing complex history through art. Additionally, filmmakers see the recent co-production agreement between Indonesia and the Netherlands as an opportunity to further elevate Indonesian cinema internationally.
