Awards Movement: Golden Globes Get a New Network 
CBS has clinched a five-year deal to broadcast the Golden Globes from 2025, with the awards show also streaming live on Paramount+. Previously on NBC, CBS aired the 2024 show in a one-off contract. Building on the success of 2024's ratings, CBS, Penske Media, and Dick Clark Productions aim to take the Golden Globes to new heights. 

 

International

French Film Rising: Industry Investment Rose 13.6% in 2023 
In 2023, movie production investment in France surged to $1.45B, with $1.19B from local backers, their third highest ever. The National Cinema Centre (CNC) managed 298 French films, up from 287 in 2022, signaling a return to pre-pandemic vigor, notably in co-productions and budget allocation.

All Eyes on In-Game Ads: New Forecasts Shows Big Investment Ahead 
According to a recent IAB study, advertisers plan to boost spending on in-video-game advertising by 40% in 2024, projecting total ad spend to hit $8.5 billion this year and $11.5 billion by 2027. The study reveals that 86% of advertisers view gaming ad spend as "brand safe," and 90% find gaming ads effective in reaching valuable audiences, given the estimated 213 million gamers in the U.S.

Titanic’s Not-So-Doomed Door: Film Props Bring in Big Profit at Auction 
A piece of balsa wood from Titanic's iconic ending fetched $718,750 at Planet Hollywood’s Heritage Auctions, becoming the highest-priced memorabilia item. Also sold were notable props like Harrison Ford's whip from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Bill Murray's red-rose bowling ball from Kingpin, and Tobey Maguire's black symbiote suit from Spider-Man 3

IP Focus: Cannes Market Launches Program for International Remakes 
The Cannes Marché du Film and France’s National Film Board (CNC) are teaming up for Cannes Remakes, a program highlighting European intellectual property for film adaptations. Taking place on May 20 at the CNC Beach, the event will include pitching sessions, one-to-one meetings, and a networking cocktail event, reflecting the growing demand for film remakes fueled by global streaming services.
