The advocacy group Women in Film, founded in 1973 by Tichi Wilkerson, former publisher and editor of The Hollywood Reporter, recently marked its 50th anniversary. In a recent interview, CEO Kristen Schaffer shed light on how the organization persists in promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry and Hollywood at large.

Several franchise films have already made a significant mark at the box office this year, but the summer season is now poised to unleash its full potential. As eagerly awaited legacy franchises like Indiana Jones, Transformers, and Mission: Impossible prepare to release their next installments alongside some fresh original content, there is a strong hope that summer ticket sales might rival figures we saw prior to the COVID era.

Gearing Up for KVIFF: Leading Central European Film Festival Releases Lineup 
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is scheduled to begin at the end of June, extending into July. A month prior to the festival's grand opening, the highly anticipated lineup has been revealed, showcasing fresh offerings from renowned international creators including Pascal Plante, Stephan Komandarev, and Tinatin Kajrish. These esteemed individuals will be participating in the Crystal Globes Competition alongside a number of promising newcomers, with the competition's jury comprising a panel of seasoned film industry experts.

Peak Voting: Changes From the Television Academy 
In the Peak TV era, recognizing outstanding shows during events like the Emmys is a challenge. In 2017, the Academy introduced fixed slots for each category to tackle this issue. However, a limited number of shows still tend to dominate the conversation. To promote diversity in nominations, the Television Academy has implemented a voting cap. The next nominations will be announced on July 12. 

 

Film

All Eyes on Docs: Cannes Has Platform for Nonfiction Film
This year, documentary filmmakers aspired to achieve the triple crown, a remarkable feat wherein a nonfiction feature secures the prestigious awards of the Golden Lion, the Golden Bear, and the Palme d'Or. While documentaries didn't claim victory at Cannes, the French festival showcased their significance by featuring two films in the top competition and selecting six additional documentary projects for its Special Screenings section.
