Breakdown: Eva Longoria’s 2023 film tells the remarkable story of Richard Montañez, a janitor at Frito Lay who channeled his Mexican American heritage to transform the beloved Flamin' Hot Cheetos brand into a worldwide pop culture sensation.

Selena (1997)

Breakdown: This classic drama tells the story of Selena Quintanilla (Jennifer Lopez), an iconic pop star who was born into a musical Mexican American family in Texas. After beginning her career performing at small venues, Selena’s astronomical rise begins, bringing Tejano music to the mainstream. She falls in love with her guitarist, deals with familial drama, and begins an English-language album—one that she tragically never completes.

Coco (2017)

Breakdown: In this captivating tale of family, joy, and exploration, Miguel, a budding young musician, follows a path that leads him to the enchanting realm of his ancestors. City of God (2002)

Breakdown: This powerful film is set in the poverty-stricken favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, where two young men choose wildly divergent paths—one is a budding photographer who documents the increasing drug-related violence of his neighborhood and then other is an ambitious drug dealer who uses those photos as a way to increase his fame as a turf war erupts.

Desperado (1995)

Breakdown: Few films from the early ‘90s indie boom boast the same kinetic energy as Robert Rodriguez’s El Mariachi follow-up. Desperado continues the adventures of a former musician and gunslinger who gets entangled in a conflict with a local drug kingpin shortly after arriving in a small Mexican border town.
