Queen of the South (2016)

Breakdown: Queen of the South is an adaptation of the Spanish novel La Reina del Sur, following Teresa Mendoza, a poor Mexican who amasses a great deal of power by building a drug empire. After fleeing from danger in Mexico, she enters the criminal world in the United States. Applying her unique approach to the drug trade, Teresa establishes her own successful organization, which puts her in the government’s crosshairs.

One Day at a Time (2017)

Breakdown: Penelope Alvarez, a U.S. Army veteran nurse, separates from her husband due to his PTSD-induced alcoholism. With her mother’s help, she raises her two children and navigates life's challenges. Dealing with sexuality and relationships, PTSD, addiction, citizenship issues, and more, the sitcom portrays the life of a Cuban American family.
