Toon in: HBO Max and Disney+ Are Betting Big on Adult Animation in 2021 

According to insiders, Bart SimpsonScooby-Doo’s VelmaHarley Quinn, and a host of other animated characters are slated to be the big stars of 2021. Jason Squire, editor of The Movie Business Bookasserts adult cartoons are likely to dominate the airwaves this year, as they are safer and cheaper to produce with isolated technicians working from home. With HBO Max and Disney+ heavily investing in new series, binge-watchers can look forward to tuning into a colorful array of new shows.

On Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo set reopening dates for amusement parks, indoor family recreation centersand summer camps, but failed to address the fate of movie theaters. Joe Masher, president of NATO New York, called the ongoing closures “baffling” and incredibly frustrating.” According to Masher, “We have movies on the calendar for Maylike Black Widow and F9: The Fast Saga. The studios need to start marketing these.”

In a sign of optimism for Broadway across the nation, Broadway in Portland announced on Wednesday that 2022 will be a busy year for stage productionsTickets for its seven-show series, which includes HamiltonPretty WomanMean Girls, and Jesus Christ Superstar, are now on sale on Ticketmaster, starting at $257. Whether or not the dates are final will depend on Oregon’s vaccine rollout, but Broadway lovers can start penciling in shows, according to the performing art group.

GRAMMY Gold: H.E.R., John Legend, Haim, and Jhene Aiko To Headline MusiCares Concert 

New performances from H.E.R., John Legend, Haimand Jhene Aiko will lead “Music on a Mission,” the 2021 MusiCares virtual concert being held during GRAMMY Week on March 12. The virtual fundraiser will “honor the resilience of the music community, which has been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to this week’s announcement. Tickets are now on sale for $25, with all proceeds going to musicians.
