‘Tis the Season: Golden Globe Nominees Announced, Streaming Services Lead the Pack
After many Covid-related hiccups, the Golden Globes will air on NBC on February 28 at 8 p.m. (ET). as a virtual event. The nominations were announced early Wednesday morning by Taraji P. Henson and Sarah Jessica Parker. Honoring the best in film and TV during a year like no other, offerings from streaming services dominated the nominations, including Netflix’s Mank leading the way on the film side and Netflix’s The Crown coming out on top for TV.

The Numbers Are In: U.K. Production Shows Promise Despite New Variant and Major Covid Setbacks
According to Thursday’s released stats from the British Film Institute, film and TV spend on Brit shores was £2.84B for the year, down a surprisingly slim 21%. BFI chief exec Ben Roberts noted that the figures “show an incredibly vibrant and positive picture for film and TV in the U.K.” after a tough year, and that “this sector is primed to grow with expansion underway in studios and production hot spots across the U.K., delivering more jobs and more to the economy."

The cast and crew of the Tony Award-winning musical Come From Away will reunite on the Broadway stage this May to perform a live, filmed version produced and financed by Entertainment One, which will be released this September. It’s just one example of how Broadway is making its way from the stage to the screen since going dark in March 2020.

Staying Alive: The Flaming Lips Concerts Show How Live Music Is Thinking Outside the “Bubble”
Innovative indie act The Flaming Lips recently performed two “Space Bubble Concerts” in Oklahoma and announced this week new March dates. Hoping to protect their fans and themselves by placing everyone inside their own inflatable bubble, the creative concert proves “safer than going to the grocery store,” said frontman Wayne Coyne, and allows audiences to attend in-person concerts after nearly a year.
