For Women’s History Month, we are highlighting just some of the amazing women across the Cast & Crew organization. This time, we chatted with Susan Hanlon, Director, Business Development and Customer Service for Backstage. Check out her interview below:
Susan Hanlon
Director, Business Development and Customer Service, Backstage
How long have you been with Cast & Crew?
I have been with Mandy since December 2016 and with Cast & Crew since the Backstage acquisition.
What empowers you most in life?
Being happy, healthy, and content.
If you could pass on any piece of helpful guidance or advice to new female leaders, what would it be?
Just be resilient. Ensure that you always take risks. Never underestimate what you can achieve. Find a mentor and never compare yourself to others.
Who are three inspiring women you would invite to your dream dinner party (and why)?
- Mary Seacole - She was courageous and successful in all she set out to do. She was an inspiration and a strong woman of color who did not let the bigots of the time stand in her way.
- Emmeline Pankhurst - She changed women’s rights in the U.K. Without her, we would not be where we are today. Her strength and courage are inspirational.
- Marie Curie –She faced so much discrimination (as did Mary and Emmeline) throughout her career as a pioneering scientist and physicist, but never let it stop her.
Who is one of your role models (and why)?
My mother. She was a strong, funny, loving, caring, and kind woman who let me be my true self.
If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?
I did not do so well in high school. I was the class clown, so I would tell myself to be a better student. I eventually got a degree, but it took me longer than it should have.
