For Women’s History Month, we wanted share some of the best films that help showcase the incredible contributions of women to our cultural fabric. Join us and watch along as we cover some of these diverse productions and the women at their core.

1. Hidden Figures (2016) 
20th Century Fox, dir. Theodore Melfi  

Breakdown: Illuminating the untold story of three remarkable African American women—Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson—whose groundbreaking contributions at NASA played a pivotal role in the success of the United States' early space missions, this film depicts the barriers they faced as Black women in a male-dominated and racially segregated environment. Hidden Figures highlights their exceptional intellect and resilience, underscoring the broader struggle for gender and racial equality. With their stories at the forefront, the film contributes to a more inclusive narrative of history, emphasizing the vital role of women, particularly women of color, in shaping the course of scientific and technological advancements. 2. A League of Their Own (1992) 
Columbia Pictures, dir. Penny Marshall 


Breakdown: Penny Marshall’s iconic film depicts the overlooked history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) during World War II. The movie shows the challenges faced by female athletes as they navigate a male-dominated sports world and societal expectations. 3. Fargo (1996) 
Working Title Films, dir. Joel & Ethan Coen 

Breakdown: This classic challenges conventional gender roles within the crime thriller genre. 4. Legally Blonde (2001) 
MGM, dir. Robert Luketic 


Breakdown: This light-hearted comedy subtly challenges stereotypes and expectations surrounding women. Starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, the narrative follows a seemingly stereotypical "girly" girl who defies societal expectations by successfully navigating Harvard Law School (What, like it’s hard...?). It’s a celebration of female empowerment and intelligence, demonstrating that femininity and academic prowess are not mutually exclusive. 5. All About Eve (1950) 
20th Century Studios, dir. Joseph L. Mankiewicz 

Breakdown: This outstanding film delves into the complexities of women's relationships, ambition, and the competitive nature of the entertainment industry, offering a nuanced exploration of the challenges women faced in the mid-20th century, particularly within the confines of Hollywood. Bette Davis' portrayal of Margo Channing, an aging actress, and Anne Baxter's portrayal of Eve Harrington, a cunning and ambitious young fan, highlight the societal pressures on women to conform to certain roles and expectations. All About Eve reflects the tension and power dynamics that women navigated in a male-dominated industry, showcasing the struggles and sacrifices often required for success.
